यह कहानी है सहज और उसकी साँझ की। बचपन के उस निश्छल अनुभूति कि जिस समय ना पाने कि लालसा होती है और ना खोने का डर। घर के आँगन मे पनपने वाले उस समर्पण की, जब खुद से ज्यादा किसी और की फिक्र होने लगे। परिवार की मर्यादा और समाज का डर, कैसे अपनों को दूर कर देता है, इसका अंदाजा सिर्फ भुगतने वाला ही लगा सकता है। समाज के खोखले और दिखावे वाली उन गलत सोच कि जिसकी वजह से ना जाने कितने मासूम अपनी जिंदगी घुट-घुट कर जीने को मजबूर हो जाते हैं। कम उम्र मे ज्यादा जिम्मेदारियों का निर्वहन करना और सतत सीखते रहना एक आम बात थी। पारिवारिक और सामाजिक मूल्यों के ऊपर वैयक्तिक सुकून और सुख नहीं देखे जाते थे।
यह कहानी है उम्र के उन अल्हड़ दिनों की जब दोस्त ही जिंदगी का सहारा होते हैं।
यह कहानी उस दौर की है जब कम्यूनिकेशन बहुत धीमा था। जिंदगी कि रफ्तार काम थी। जीने की जरूरतें काम थी। अपनों के पास समय होता था । भावनावों की कद्र होती तो थी, पर उन्हे उचित सम्मान नहीं मिलता था।
आज की तेज दुनिया के सामने जिंदगी धीमी जरूर थी, पर मानवीय मूल्यों का महत्व काफी ज्यादा था। सामाजिक मूल्यों पर सही उतरना टेढ़ी खीर होती थी। लोगों को खुद से ज्यादा समाज कि चिंता रहती। ढकोसले और बाह्य आडंबर बहुत ज्यादा थे। सरकारी नौकरी थी और कृषि अर्थ व्यवस्था का प्राथमिक आधार था। लोग गाँव में रहना ज्यादा पसंद करते थे । परिवार का एक मुखिया होता था, जो सबको सामान रूप से एक साथ ले कर चलता था।
गाँव की ताजी और स्वच्छ हवा, खुला आकाश, मिट्टी कि सौंधी खुशबू से सारा वातावरण सौहार्दपूर्ण प्रतीत होता था।
ऐसे पावन परिवेश में अपनत्व का पनपना महज संयोग नहीं अपितु ईश्वर की कृपा थी।
सांस्कृतिक और परंपरागत मान्यताओं को समझना और उनके वैदिक मूल्यों को सँजोकर उनके साथ बढ़ते रहना ऐसे परिवेश में सहज और साँझ के लिए बहुत चुनौतीपूर्ण रहा है। एक दूसरे के होकर भी वे एक दूसरे के नहीं थे। कैसे काल चक्र में फँसकर दोनों ने परिवार कि खुशियों को चुना। अपनी खुशियों को भूलकर बाकी सब के लिए जीते रहे।
यह कहानी बचपन के उन निश्छल मनोभावों से शुरू होती हैं, जहाँ अनकहा और अव्यक्त समर्पण है । सामयिक और सामाजिक परिस्तिथियों कैसे उनके शांत और कोमल जीवन में उतार चढ़ाव लाती है, जिसे वो बखूबी निभाते हुए अपनी खुशियों को त्याग कर एक दूसरे से हमेशा के लिए अलग हो कर काल के गाल में समा जाते हैं।
